The future of Ferran Torres at Barcelona is becoming one of the club’s most intriguing unresolved situations heading into the summer transfer window.
While much of the attention around Barcelona’s attack has focused on potential arrivals and the long-term future of Robert Lewandowski, there is also growing uncertainty surrounding Ferran’s role in the project despite the player himself having no intention of leaving.
According to reports in Diari ARA, Ferran remains fully committed to Barcelona and wants to continue at the club regardless of the lack of progress regarding a contract renewal.
His current deal expires in 2027, yet there has been no formal movement toward extending his stay, no negotiations advancing and no clear sporting roadmap presented to the player.
So what now?
As per the aforementioned outlet, the situation has come to this extent because Barcelona see Ferran as one of the few valuable assets capable of helping finance a blockbuster operation in the market.
The Spanish international is viewed as a player with strong resale value, particularly if he performs well at the FIFA World Cup over the coming months.
In fact, Barcelona are reportedly hoping that a strong World Cup campaign could significantly increase his market price ahead of a potentially transformative summer window.
One possibility being discussed behind the scenes is the use of Ferran in a major operation involving Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid, especially since Mateu Alemany is an admirer.

It is known that Barcelona consider Alvarez their priority this summer, and Ferran’s profile could potentially become useful in negotiations if the Catalans seriously attempt to pursue such a high-cost signing.

If Lewandowski ultimately leaves, that scenario could trigger Barcelona to finally offer Ferran a renewal and place him more centrally within the club’s long-term attacking plans.
