Tottenham Hotspur claimed a vital 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League at Villa Park on Sunday.
Conor Gallagher opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Youri Tielemans headed Kevin Danso’s long throw to his path, and the Englishman picked out the bottom corner in fine fashion.
Moments later, Joao Palhinha nearly doubled Spurs’ lead when he unleashed a powerful long-range strike that crashed against the post. Shortly after, Randal Kolo Muani’s volley was denied by Emiliano Martínez.
In the 25th minute, Richarlison doubled the Lilywhites’ advantage after he met Mathys Tel’s cross with a thumping header.
Just before the break, Tel saw his effort float wide as Spurs went into the break with a two-goal lead.
Neither side could create any clear-cut chance until the 72nd minute, as Djed Spence rolled an effort wide of the near post.
Moments later, Martinez was called into action again as he comfortably gathered Danso’s header from Pedro Porro’s corner.
Deep into stoppages, Emiliano Buendia halved the deficit as he rose highest to meet Matty Cash’s cross.
The result sees Tottenham Hotspur move a point above the relegation zone with three games to go.
