Premier League champions Arsenal have reportedly made a verbal offer to Newcastle United to try to sign midfielder Bruno Guimarães this summer. The proposal was thought to be worth around €65 million, but has been rejected by the St James’ Park club, who are reluctant to sell the Brazilian this summer. Guimarães joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 for €42.1m and has established himself as a key part of Eddie Howe’s side. He has made over 150 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 goals from centre-midfield. He is also an important player for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil, starting all three group games. Newcastle have already sold winger Anthony Gordon to Barcelona this summer in a deal worth €80m, with a sell-on clause also included, and are facing a fight to keep hold of Guimaraes’s midfield partner, Sandro Tonali, who is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City this summer.
