A new name has cropped up on the list of potential successors to Massimiliano Allegri as head coach of Milan, as Ralf Rangnick reportedly wants 38-year-old Matthias Jaissle to take charge of the Rossoneri.
Report: Rangnick wants Jaissle to take over as head coach of Milan
Milan need an entire new senior management team after parting company with head coach Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and CEO Giorgio Furlani the day after the 2025-26 season came to an end, after the Rossoneri had failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Recent reports indicate that Rangnick is among the leading candidates to take over the technical sector in San Siro, however, the German, currently serving as head coach of the Austria national team, wants certain guarantees if he is to join the Milan set-up.
Recent reports claim that Rangnick wants full control to bring in his own staff of scouts to the club and to have full control over the appointment of the next head coach. He has made it clear that he only wishes to join the Rossoneri after the 2026 World Cup has come to an end.
According to the latest updates from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Rangnick’s first-choice as head coach would be 38-year-old Jaissle, currently in charge of Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League. A former Hoffenheim defender, Jaissle also held roles with FC Liefering and later RB Salzburg before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2023.
Jaissle won the Austrian domestic double during his first season in charge of RB Salzburg and also led the club to the knock-out stages of the Champions League for the first time in its history. He followed that up with another league title in 2022-23.
Jaissle also won the 2025 AFC Champions League with an Al-Ahli side that featured the likes of Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Ivan Toney.
Jaissle is not the only name to be linked with a move to Milan over the last few days. USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to be liked by Gerry Cardinale, and Oliver Glasner is also a potential option. Andoni Iraola has also been linked, but recent updates claim that he is more likely to replace Glasner at Crystal Palace instead.
