Atalanta midfielder Ederson will replace injured Roma right-back Wesley in the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup, the Brazilian FA confirmed.
Roma defender Wesley has been forced to miss the 2026 World Cup due to an injury suffered during a friendly against Egypt on Saturday.
The Brazilian FA announced that the MRI scan undergone by Wesley highlighted an adductor muscle injury of the left thigh.
Wesley will be replaced by Ederson, an Atalanta midfielder, on the verge of joining Manchester United for €45m.
The Brazilian FA said that Ederson would join the rest of the team in the United States on Monday.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil have been placed in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti and Scotland.
They’ll make their 2026 World Cup debut on June 14 against Morocco, then face Haiti on June 20 and end the group phase against Scott McTominay’s Scotland on June 25.
Wesley scored five goals and provided two assists in 39 games with Roma in 2025-26.
“Wesley is a beloved player within the group and will always be considered part of this team that is seeking its sixth World Cup championship,” said the Brazilian FA.
