Barcelona are now moving closer to finalising the permanent departure of Ansu Fati, with AS Monaco increasingly confident about keeping the Spanish forward beyond this season.

The Ligue 1 side are prepared to activate the purchase option included in Ansu’s current loan agreement, a development that would hand Barcelona an important financial boost ahead of the summer transfer window.

As reported before, Monaco are willing to pay the agreed €11 million to secure the attacker permanently after being satisfied with his performances during his spell in France.

Everything is on track, but…

Within the Ligue 1 club, there is belief that the player’s market value could eventually rise beyond the fee currently agreed with Barcelona, which is one of the reasons the French club are prepared to move forward with the operation.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are also expected to retain some long-term control over the player’s future.

Reports from Mundo Deportivo state the Catalan club has already agreed on a buy-back clause worth slightly over €25 million, while discussions regarding a sell-on percentage are also progressing positively.

Although the deal is now entering its final stages, there is still one important issue preventing the transfer from being completely finalised, which is his salary.

Before leaving Barcelona, it must be remembered that the Spanish forward renewed his contract until 2028 while agreeing to defer part of his wages.

However, his current salary package remains significantly above Monaco’s financial structure and the general salary levels within French football.

This season, Monaco have covered only part of the player’s wages, with Barcelona continuing to absorb a considerable portion of the salary.

Because of that, the final negotiations are now focused heavily on finding an agreement regarding reduced wages that better fit Monaco’s financial reality.

Reports from France suggest discussions are advancing in a positive direction, with both parties optimistic about eventually reaching a compromise.
