Pisa’s fate is now sealed after just two wins and 18 points from 35 matches, while Lecce move four points clear of 18th-placed Cremonese, who still have to face Lazio on Monday.

The home side started brightly and created the better openings early on, with Filip Stojilkovic and Simone Canestrelli both denied by sharp goalkeeping from Wladimiro Falcone. Lecce, however, grew into the contest, with Lameck Banda a constant threat down the flank.

It was Banda who broke the deadlock shortly after the restart. Lecce struck on the counter, and the Zambian winger showed composure to control before firing past Adrian Semper from mid-range to make it 1-0.

Pisa responded well and found an equaliser on 56 minutes through Mehdi Leris, who reacted quickest inside the box to fire a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

With the game finely balanced, Lecce regained the lead just after the hour mark. Santiago Pierotti slipped in Walid Cheddira, who showed determination to reach the ball ahead of the defence and calmly slot home what proved to be the winner.

Pisa pushed late on, going close through Gabriele Piccinini, but Lecce held firm despite late pressure and an offside goal ruling out a third.

The final whistle confirmed a painful outcome for Pisa, whose relegation is now mathematically certain, while Lecce take a significant step towards Serie A safety.
