- Fenerbahce are keen on signing Bernardo Silva as a free agent this summer.
- The Turkish side are reportedly planning to meet the midfielder’s agent in the coming days.
- Domestic rivals Galatasaray are also set to offer Silva €15 million annually.
Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce are reportedly preparing a move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, who will leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
The 31-year-old recently announced news of his pending departure from City coinciding with the end of his existing contract this summer, which will conclude a nine-year stay at the club.
Silva arrived at Manchester City from AS Monaco in 2017 and has since made 454 appearances, registering 76 goals and 77 assists while also winning 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and a UEFA Champions League title.
The Portuguese midfield maestro’s upcoming departure as a free agent has made him a top prospect for several clubs, and an intense transfer race to acquire his signature is expected to take place in the summer.
Fenerbahce chief to visit Silva’s agent
Now, according to Turkish outlet Fotomaç – as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Fenerbahce have ‘begun efforts’ to sign Bernardo Silva once he becomes a free agent this summer.
The Turkish sports site also mentions that the club’s sporting director Devin Ozek and football branch manager Ertan Torunogullari will be making a trip to England in the coming days.
Fenerbahce officials also plan to hold a first meeting with Bernardo Silva’s agent, Jorge Mendes to discuss a potential move to Istanbul for the upcoming season.
Fenerbahce to fight Turkish arch rivals for Silva
Unsurprisingly given the player’s quality, Fenerbahce are expected to face heavy competition from rivals Galatasaray in the pursuit of Bernardo Silva, with other reports suggesting that they have already initiated talks and are ready to make a €15 million‑per‑year offer.
While the Yellow Canaries will be hoping to seal the deal with their reported upcoming visit to England, Galatasaray are not the only hurdle in securing Bernardo Silva’s services, with the player having also attracted interest from the likes of Juventus, Barcelona, and AC Milan.
What’s next for Bernardo Silva and Manchester City?
Bernardo Silva made his 454th appearance for Manchester City in their 2-1 FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton, just days after he moved up to eighth for all-time club games and ahead of club legend and ambassador Mike Summerbee via the 0-1 win at Burnley.
Along with the intense Premier League title race and having won the Carabao Cup, Manchester City are aiming to win the domestic treble by lifting the FA Cup, and are set to face Chelsea in the Final at Wembley Stadium later this month.
While it remains to be seen which club makes the cut for Bernardo Silva for next season, the midfielder will currently be focused on contributing to more silverware for Manchester City before bidding farewell to the Citizens.
