The Nerazzurri took a while to break the Sardinians down at San Siro, finally taking the lead through Thuram tapping in the Federico Dimarco assist.
Moments later, Thuram’s shot was charged down and Barella was ready to blast in the rebound past Elia Caprile.
Why Barella did not celebrate goal
Barella did not celebrate, waving to the crowd in apology, because Cagliari is his hometown club and where he started his career before the move to Inter in 2019.
Teammate Thuram did his best to crack a smile out of his teammate by scooping up the diminutive midfielder and carrying him around on his shoulders.
The Italian seemed a little concerned that he might get dropped from a great height, so looked relieved when landing on his feet.
Inter went into the weekend nine points clear at the top of the Serie A table and are closing on the Scudetto.
