Club Brugge came from behind to beat Sint Truiden at the weekend, but the victory came at a cost. During the first half, an accidental collision between Kyriani Sabbe and his teammate Carlos Forbs saw the former have to leave the pitch. As reported by HLN, Sabbe had to leave the stadium on crutches and will now miss the rest of the season. It is a real shame for both Club Brugge and Sabbe, with the young full-back having been playing well in recent weeks.
Sabbe came through the Club Brugge academy and has already gone on to make 110 appearances since his debut during the 2022/2023 season. The 21-year-old has played 39 games for Club Brugge this season, scoring three goals and grabbing four assists.
In his place, the title chasing Club Brugge will have a few options. Former Standard Liege, Cercle Brugge and Freiburg defender Hugo Siquet will likely get a chance for Ivan Leko’s side. This weekend they face Union St Gilloise in a game that could go a long way to deciding where the Belgian Pro League title ends up this season. Siquet has played a fair amount of football for Club Brugge this season, so his inclusion would not hamper Club Brugge that much, if at all. So far the 23-year-old has played 34 games in all competitions for Club Brugge, providing one assist.
