Sydney Sweeney shines in the fashion world and makes Kim Kardashian envious
Hollywood actor Sydney Sweeney made an unexpected appearance in Portuguese soccer on Friday night, taking in Sporting CP‘s 3-0 victory over Estoril in Lisbon – and appearing to pay tribute to Sporting icon Bruno Fernandes in the process.
The star of The White Lotus and Euphoria was a guest at the Estadio José Alvalade as Sporting CP secured an important win that keeps them within four points of Primeira Liga leaders FC Porto.
The result sets up a tantalizing showdown between the Lisbon giants and FC Porto on Tuesday in a match that could have major implications in the title race.
After the final whistle, Sweeney was presented with a personalized Sporting jersey bearing “Sydney” on the back, marking the occasion with a keepsake from one of Portugal’s most storied clubs.
She also met Jubas, the club's giant lion mascot, and spent time on the pitch soaking in the atmosphere. he highlight of her visit, however, came when she tried her luck in front of goal.
Sweeney's nod to Bruno
While she appeared unable to beat the goalkeeper – judging by her animated reaction – it was what followed that caught the attention of fans.
Sweeney raised her hands to cover her ears in celebration, a gesture closely associated with former Sporting star Fernandes.
Fernandes, now captain of Manchester United, spent three seasons at Sporting before sealing a high-profile move to Man United in January 2020.
During his time in Lisbon, he developed a trademark goal celebration in which he covers his ears – a symbolic expression widely interpreted as shutting out external criticism and noise.
The gesture has remained part of Fernandes‘ on-field persona in England, where he has become a central figure for United.
As one of the most scrutinized players in the Premier League, the Portuguese international has often used the celebration after crucial goals, reinforcing its message of resilience.

For Sweeney, one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, the symbolism may resonate.
With global fame comes constant public attention, and her playful imitation of Bruno Fernandes‘ celebration appeared to acknowledge that shared experience – even if delivered with a smile after a missed shot.
