We can't take it anymore.
This Friday afternoon was the draw for the Champions League round of 16, and it gave us yet another showdown between Manchester City and Real Madrid.
This will simply be the 17th time these two clubs face each other in the Champions League, making it the second most frequent fixture in the competition’s history after Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich (22).
Quite simply, the two clubs have faced each other at least once in six of the last seven editions of the Champions League. In fact, this is the first fixture in history to be played five years in a row in the knockout phase of the competition with the big ears.
Thibaut Courtois, despite himself, is the personification of this absurd recurrence, as the goalkeeper has now faced Manchester City more times with Real (9) than during his time at Chelsea (7).
Ironically, the record of the first 15 matches between the two teams is perfectly balanced, with five draws, five wins for each side, 25 goals for Real Madrid and 26 for Manchester City.
Inevitably, internet users have also not failed to show their weariness at this endless series of clashes between the two giants. Here’s a selection.
