Turkish journalist Taner Karaman believes Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu will join Galatasaray in the summer.
Speaking as a guest on ASpor TV via FCInter1908, Karaman delivered his verdict on intense rumors linking Calhanoglu with a move to Istanbul.
Despite being one of Inter’s standout performers this season, Hakan Calhanoglu could leave the club in the coming months.
Indeed, Galasatasaray’s interest in the 32-year-old is persistent, with the Rams Park giants preparing a summer swoop for the Nerazzurri midfielder.
Although their attempt to lure Calhanoglu back to his homeland fail to come to fruition last summer, they’re reluctant to give up.
Meanwhile, the former AC Milan playmaker’s future at San Siro is hanging in the balance.
With his contract running until 2027, Inter have a decision to make. They can either tie him down to a new deal or accept the risk of losing him on a free transfer in just over 12 months.
However, the runaway Serie A leaders are unwilling to take that risk.
Hakan Tipped to Join Galatasaray in the Summer
“For next season, I can share this information,” Karaman started. “Let’s say 99%, and that 1% difference is only because the agreement has not yet been signed.
“Hakan Calhanoglu will, at 99%, wear the Galatasaray shirt next season. But, as I said, it’s 99%: that small margin depends on the fact that the signature has not yet arrived, so anything can still happen.
“I think that at this moment, Hakan Calhanoglu believes he has given his word to Galatasaray. We also know that talks are progressing positively. I can say we have reached the point where it’s basically ‘OK, I will also speak with my club,’ and so on.
“Most likely, for next season, instead of the move for İlkay Gundogan, it will be exactly the move for Hakan Calhanoglu. To make it easier to imagine, a bit like what happened with Mertens: a number 10 profile with greater productivity in the penalty area.
“Since Galatasaray need a player with more attacking impact in that area, it seems that for next season – again, 99% – Hakan Calhanoglu will wear the Galatasaray shirt.”
