Liverpool v Fulham Team News Ahead of Anfield Clash

Liverpool return to Premier League action this weekend with Fulham visiting Anfield, and the focus is firmly on Team News after a demanding week for Arne Slot’s side. Fresh from a 2-0 defeat away at Paris Saint Germain, the league leaders must quickly reset, both physically and mentally.

Slot, now well into his tenure after delivering the Premier League title in 2024-25, faces a familiar challenge, managing player fitness in a packed schedule. The Dutchman offered a candid update ahead of the match, making it clear that late decisions will shape his starting eleven.

Liverpool Squad Fitness Concerns

There is cautious optimism around Liverpool, but the injury list still carries weight. Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni remain unavailable, leaving gaps in key defensive areas.

Slot said in his pre match press conference on Friday: “Yesterday was a recovery day and let’s see where a few of our players are, because I’m also not telling you for the first time that not all of our players are able and capable of playing three days later another intense game. Let’s see what the line-up brings this time.”

That measured tone reflects a manager balancing ambition with realism. Defensive depth is a particular concern, as Slot himself pointed out when assessing his options.

“It’s right that compared to the whole season this is the best period of time when it comes to players available,” said the head coach.

“But if I go away from here and I go into my office, I’m looking at my list, I’m seeing three defenders injured: a right full-back Conor Bradley, a centre-back with Giovanni Leoni and a player that can play at centre-back Wataru Endo.

“And [some] of the players I’m of course worried about again for tomorrow will be Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez.”

Boost from Attacking Return

One clear positive in Liverpool Team News is the return of Alexander Isak. The striker made his comeback from a lengthy injury lay off with a brief appearance in midweek, offering a glimpse of what he can bring.

Slot continued: “Now we don’t get a player back yet but Alisson is working hard to find his way back into the squad, so that’s really positive. But he will not be in the squad this weekend yet.

“That Alex is available for us again is vital of course because I said many times over here that it was hard for us to convert the chances into goals and he’s been a goalscorer his whole life now. We did not get a chance against Paris but in all the other games we’ve had many chances.

“So to have him back is really nice. It was only 15 minutes but it’s good to have him back. Hopefully we can progress those minutes and he can grow to his form as soon as possible.”

The emphasis here is clear, Liverpool have created chances, now they need a reliable finisher to turn them into points.

Fulham Preparation and Absentees

Fulham arrive with a different rhythm. Their last outing came in a 3-1 win over Burnley, and a 21 day gap between fixtures has given Marco Silva time to prepare, even if it has disrupted momentum.

Silva confirmed his own Team News concerns: “We have another session tomorrow but the players right now we consider them to be out are Kevin, Kenny and Harrison Reed.”

There is, however, a boost with Calvin Bassey declared fit, strengthening Fulham’s defensive options.

Silva also reflected on the unusual schedule: “It’s a rare situation for us when you are going to prepare yourself for the end of the season, the last seven games, and we are three weeks without a game. It’s a long period.”

Match Context and Expectations

This fixture brings together a Liverpool side managing fatigue and a Fulham team refreshed but potentially lacking sharpness. The numbers suggest a competitive edge, Liverpool with 50 goals to Fulham’s 43, while both sides post similar shooting accuracy.

At Anfield, the expectation rarely shifts. Liverpool will look to assert control early, while Fulham may see opportunity in any lingering fatigue. Team News, as ever, could prove decisive.
