The New York Jets and cornerback Nahshon Wright have agreed to a one-year contract, a source told ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The contract is worth a maximum of $5.5 million, according to NFL Network.
Wright had five interceptions last season for the Chicago Bears and will be joining a Jets team that made NFL history last year when they failed to intercept a single pass.
The Jets have overhauled their defense in the first two days of the free agent negotiating period, adding safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, linebacker Demario Davis, pass rushers Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare, defensive tackle David Onyemata and safety Dane Belton.
The Bears signed Chicago Wright to a one-year contract on April 8 last year, one day after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings. With Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson sidelined throughout training camp, Wright won a starting job at outside corner and continued to see increased playing time as injuries affected the Bears’ secondary throughout the 2025 season.
Wright began his Bears tenure by recording a 74-yard pick six off Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy in Chicago’s season opener. He started 16 games in the regular season and both games in the playoffs.
Wright, 27, finished second on the Bears with a career-best five interceptions and added two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries on a Chicago defense that led the NFL with 33 takeaways.
The former Oregon State standout was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round in 2021 and appeared in 33 games with three starts over three seasons. He was then traded to the Vikings in 2024 and spent the entire season on Minnesota’s practice squad.
