The Giallorossi had gone behind just 60 seconds into the big Serie A match at San Siro with a Lautaro Martinez strike, but Mancini managed to draw level.

He remained in the area after a corner was cleared, so was ready for the header from six yards on a Devyne Rensch cross.

However, there was a double blow for him going into half-time, as Hakan Calhanoglu scored with a scorcher from at least 35 yards out, then the defender limped off.

Mancini was clutching the top of his thigh following a collision with Marcus Thuram, and was visibly limping as the team went into the break.

He did not return after the restart, replaced by Daniele Ghilardi, and tests are required to see what damage has been done.

Mancini had been in the starting XI of both Italy’s World Cup play-off matches against Northern Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Roma are already missing Wesley, Paulo Dybala, Artem Dovbyk, Manu Koné and Evan Ferguson.
