Portsmouth have appealed against Connor Ogilvie's red card in their 2-2 draw with Oxford United on Monday.
The full-back was dismissed after lunging into U's forward Stan Mills from behind following a heavy touch.
The decision prompted a furious reaction from the home support as well as the Portsmouth bench.
"Yes we have (appealed against it) and we expect to hear later on today," Pompey boss John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.
"I'm hopeful, everyone I have spoken to is in agreement about it not being a red, there's plenty of factors to take into account and we have to prove that the referee has made a serious error.
"I spoke about the challenge after the game and still feel that Connor doesn't need to make it, I'd say it's a yellow card. It's one of those that sits in the margins and we'll see what the outcome is."
The Portsmouth boss also offered an update on the fitness of defender Zak Swanson who has not played since their 6-1 defeat by QPR before the international break.

Despite suffering an injury needing surgery, Mousinho said there was still a chance he could feature before the end of the season.
"There's an issue with Zak's knee, we're going over a couple of permutations internally in terms of what that looks like and how risky it would be for him to play on it," Mousinho added.
"We'll make that descision in the next couple of days, we have to be careful for Zak's sake more than anything else.
"It's one of those that will require an operation at some point, it's just whether we get it done now or at the end of the season."
The Portsmouth boss also revealed that midfielder Ebou Adams will return for their match against Leicester in 10 days time and defender Josh Knight is available for selection again.
Despite the positive news on returning players, Mousinho said he still thinks winger Josh Murphy will miss the rest of the season through injury.
"Josh has only just returned to being back out on the grass and has been out of action since late December," he said.
"By around next week it will have been four months out altogether so I'm pretty sure that Josh will be out until the end of the season."
