H&W Welders manager Paul Kee says advancing to the quarter-finals of the Irish Cup is "good for the profile of the club".

After a tight first half, two goals from Ethan Devine and Caolan Murphy's strike gave the home side a comfortable win and their passage to the next round.

Kee's side will now travel to face cup holders Dungannon Swifts for a spot in the semi-finals.

"It is brilliant. It is a good distraction from the league, the players deserve the run and I can get a few younger players out," Kee told BBC Sport NI when asked what it meant to make the last eight.

"It is good for players. They look forward to it and the excitement of a cup competition. It is also good for the profile of the club."

The Welders are the second Championship side to progress to the quarter-finals of this year's competition after Limavady United stunned Premiership champions Linfield.

Five points separates first-placed Limavady and the Welders in second as both sides try and secure the top two spots in the Championship.

"The top Championship teams want to compete with Premiership teams," Kee continued.

"We have assembled a squad who are competent, evolving and learning.

"That is where we want to be and we think we can be. You have to be at your best every game and today we weren't, so we have lots of learning points."

Ballymacash manager Gary Hamilton has plenty of experience winning the Irish Cup and last lifted the trophy in 2016.

However, with his new side, he couldn't advance past the sixth round for the first time.

"It was a strange game. We had a game plan, and I thought in the first half it worked really well. They didn't really have any chances and we had three. If anyone deserved to go into the lead in the first half it was ourselves," Hamilton told BBC Sport NI.

"They came out and put his under pressure for 15 minutes, but we rode the wave and didn't concede.

"When they go 1-0 up, it is going to be really difficult and that was proven as they went on to win 3-0. I don't think the result was a reflection of the game and we didn't deserve to be on the end of a 3-0 defeat."
