FC Barcelona have announced that teenage midfield prodigy Ignaci Bassas has signed his first professional contract with the club to continue his development at La Masia.
Just 16 years old, the interior midfielder is currently a part of the Catalans’ Cadete A setup and has signed a new deal with the club.
“The player Ignasi Bassas has signed a contract to remain with the Club during his time in the youth ranks, in the presence of the Head of Youth Development, Jose Ramon Alexanco,” the club statement read.
“Thank you, Bassas-Martí family, for trusting La Masia with your son’s development as a player and a person.”
Described as a classical La Masia midfielder, Bassas is a creative player who shines with his technical ability and vision on the pitch.
Currently in his ninth year with the Barcelona youth academy, he is primarily an interior midfielder. But the teenage prodigy is capable of operating in a deep-lying role in the centre of the park as well.
Having turned 16 years old in February this year, Bassas has penned his first professional contract, committing his developmental years to Barcelona, hoping to break into the first-team setup in the future.
