Milan fed up with Rafael Leão, will listen to offers in summer

Portuguese forward Rafael Leão’s time at Milan seems to be coming to an end after a difficult last few weeks with the club.

The 26-year-old was booed by fans as he walked off during the Rossoneri’s 3–0 home defeat at the hands of Udinese. This was Milan’s third defeat in last four outings and has considerably derailed their campaign going into the business end of the season. Massimiliano Allegri’s men have gone from distant title contenders to clinging on to a Champions League spot for dear life.

Leão has been a shadow of the livewire he had become for Milan during their league-winning run in 2021/22. While coach Allegri has come out in support of the Portugal international, who has only managed ten goals and two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season, the Milan hierarchy have had enough and are willing to listen to offers for him in the summer even in the region of around €50 million, a fraction of what they would have demanded four years ago.

This comes from La Gazzetta dello Sport, who make it clear that Chelsea once tried to bring him to Stamford Bridge. At that point, they ended up with Mykhailo Mudryk instead.

Leão still has two years remaining on his €6.41m-per-year contract, which could prove to be a hurdle for clubs that may try to pry him away from San Siro this summer.

It is believed that Barcelona have tried to sign the player in the past and so have Bayern Munich. A deal involving Manchester United in the summer might now be more suitable for all parties. At the moment, however, GdS report that Milan have received no offers for their once-prized forward.
