Relegation-threatened Championship strugglers Leicester City are poised to name Gary Rowett as their new head coach.

BBC Radio Leicester report that Rowett, 51, took training with the Foxes on Wednesday.

He looks set to be the permanent replacement for Marti Cifuentes, who was sacked three weeks ago.

Rowett had a short spell with the Foxes during his playing career and arrives with 14 games of the Championship season remaining, with the club two points adrift of safety in 22nd position in the table.

H has previously managed five clubs in the Championship, taking charge of Birmingham City, Derby County, Millwall, Stoke City and most recently Oxford United, were he was sacked after almost a year in charge.

Leicester have lost all four games under interim boss Andy King since the Spaniard's departure, and have also been docked six points in that time, having been found guilty of breaching spending rules after a protracted legal battle.

The points penalty, combined with a seven-game winless run that has included six defeats, has plunged Leicester into the Championship drop zone.

The East Midlands club dropped into the bottom three on Saturday with Blackburn Rovers leapfrogging them and out of the relegation places by beating Queens Park Rangers in the league as the Foxes were knocked out of the FA Cup by Southampton.
