It seems that Liverpool were willing to simply wait things out to sign Guehi in the summer. There wasn't really any major talk about a January move for the player – the free transfer was the goal.
And it seems that Manchester City felt the same way. Or at least, they did until injuries struck. The Athletic reports that ‘injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias saw their pursuit of the 25-year-old brought forward’.
