According to a recent update from SPORT, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is preparing a heavily rotated lineup for the upcoming derby against Espanyol, with full focus shifting towards the crucial Champions League second leg against Atlético Madrid.
After a damaging 0-2 defeat in the first leg, Barcelona are staring at a difficult task.
That reality is now influencing every selection decision, and Flick understands that energy, freshness, and tactical sharpness will be key if the team are to mount a comeback at the Metropolitano.
As things stand, only three players are guaranteed to keep their place in the starting XI, namely, Joan Garcia, Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal.
Beyond that, the lineup is expected to undergo significant changes.
There will be rotation
As per the outlet, there are several moving parts in defence, as Alejandro Balde is pushing for a return after injury.
However, Flick may be cautious about throwing him straight into a demanding fixture given his limited minutes recently.
At the same time, both Joao Cancelo and Gerard Martin are candidates to be rested as the schedule begins to take its toll.
Furthermore, one player who could benefit from the reshuffle is Ronald Araujo.

The captain is in contention to return to the backline, although there remains a possibility that he could instead be preserved for the European clash.
In that scenario, Eric Garcia appears the most likely option to step in.
Midfield and attack
Midfield is where the biggest transformation is expected.
This is because Pedri is almost certain to be left out after being withdrawn at half-time against Atletico Madrid due to discomfort.
Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong is expected to feature, but only in a controlled manner – likely off the bench to regain rhythm.
This opens the door for Gavi, who is edging closer to full fitness. After getting valuable minutes recently, the derby could mark his first start since returning from injury.
There is also a possibility for Marc Casado to finally get a rare opportunity, as Flick looks to rotate intelligently without completely losing balance.
Lastly, in attack, the spotlight will be on Ferran Torres.
The forward has been searching for a goal since January, and this derby presents a timely opportunity to rediscover his scoring touch.
