Dutch center-back Perr Schuurs admitted he was close to joining Inter Milan after an impressive first season at Torino.
Speaking to ESPN via FCInterNews, the 26-year-old revealed his regret at failing to complete a transfer to San Siro in 2023.
Once considered among Europe’s most promising defenders, Perr Schuurs swapped Ajax for Torino in the summer of 2022
Furthermore, he enjoyed a superb maiden season in Turin, emerging as one of Serie A’s hottest talents.
Therefore, former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi wanted to add him to his defensive options three years ago.
However, the deal never came to fruition, forcing Schuurs to stick with the Granata.
Unfortunately, the Dutchman suffered a disastrous knee injury in October 2023. As a result, he never played another game for Torino.
Moreover, he is currently a free agent after Roberto D’Aversa’s side terminated his contract in February.
Former Torino Star Perr Schuurs Regrets Failing to Join Inter Milan
Schuurs had hoped to reunite with his international teammate Stefan de Vrij at San Siro.
Furthermore, he had already agreed personal terms with Inter, only for the deal to collapse at the 11th hour.
“I had already reached a personal agreement with Inter,” Schuurs confirmed. “After a fantastic season at Torino, I was at the peak of my career and really wanted to take that step.
“Inter played in the same way as Torino. Stefan de Vrij was supposed to become my mentor there.
“It was a great project that ultimately fell through – you can feel it. On top of that, Inter went on to win the title and also reached the Champions League final.
“It was painful to watch; I would’ve liked to experience that as well.”
Meanwhile, Schuurs could soon return to action, with several Italian clubs, including Genoa, Fiorentina, and Udinese, showing interest in his services.
