Chris Wheeler on whether Mateus Fernandes wants United or Spurs:
“I don’t know. I don’t know what’s in his head. He’ll have an agent as well pushing hard and you know Jorge Mendes… money talks. I do know that where it concerned Elliot Anderson. But I think also there was a feeling quite rightly that if he wants to go somewhere else then let him go somewhere else. Don’t pursue a player that doesn’t want to come.
I think Man United feel that Fernandes wants to come otherwise that would be their view. But also if there comes a point where they feel that his head or heart is elsewhere then let him go and they’ll have other targets.”
Chris Wheeler on Tottenham’s interest on Fernandes:
“A couple of weeks ago if the personal terms were all done, it was never going to be a problem. The two clubs were talking. He was keen to come. Everything seemed to be heading in that direction. Tottenham have come in pretty hot and heavy. Not just on him either, on Tonali as well, and on several players now actually.
They are pushing hard and I think they’ve definitely put a fly in the ointment and it’s causing problems.”
