Carlisle United chief executive officer Nigel Clibbens has left the club with immediate effect.

Clibbens joined the club in 2016, having previously held a similar role at Huddersfield Town.

But in a statement, the Cumbrians said “this was the right time to make a leadership change as the club moves into its next phase”.

The club added that an interim leadership structure is in place to "ensure continuity" while focus remains on "supporting the team".

Carlisle are third in the National League with nine games to go after a 2-0 midweek win at Aldershot.

But with a 13-point gap to leaders Rochdale, the play-offs looks like their only route for securing promotion back to League Two.
