Bruno Fernandes with some detailed insight on Michael Carrick’s coaching methods:
“When he [Carrick] arrived, Michael tried to bring STABILITY to the team and peace of mind to the players.
“He knows the club, he knows how the club wants to play and what the fans want to see.
“He brings a lot of CALM to his way of coaching. We approach matches with a sound mindset, but also with a lot of responsibility.
“He gives you the fundamentals and rules that are NON-NEGOTIABLE, but he also wants us to take our responsibilities and make our OWN decisions, because things can change during the match.
“He gives you the FREEDOM to make your decisions with the ball.
“He tells us: ‘I can’t decide for you where to pass the ball or when to shoot, but I can help you know where the spaces will be,’ and I think knowing where the spaces will be is the most important thing.
“That’s Michael’s message. He gives us advice and then it’s up to us to make the right decision. He lets us analyse the match, because a lot of things can happen.”
