“When we see the images and listen to the audio shared by the Federation, all that’s left is a feeling of embarrassment. It’s not acceptable that we are allowed to hear their comments, completely contrary to how VAR is supposed to function, and nothing happens. Referees have the same right to make mistakes as players, coaches, and directors, but mistakes in the game are just that: mistakes. It’s another thing entirely when a VAR referee influences the on-field referee while he is judging a play.
The on-field referee must have the responsibility and make decisions by interpreting each situation. VAR should only intervene to correct non-interpretive errors, not to decide instead of the main referee.
