Barcelona have decided to pause their pursuit of Ruud Nijstad for the time being, despite the defender remaining highly rated within the club.
According to a report from SPORT, it has come to light that although the Catalan side are still in contact over the situation of the Dutch centre-back, they do not believe this is the right moment to make a concrete move.
The decision is not linked to a loss of interest, but rather a matter of timing and valuation.
On Barcelona’s radar
Nijstad has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months and is considered one of the most promising young defenders in European football.
The club’s sporting department views him as a player with both immediate potential and long-term upside, fitting the profile Barcelona have consistently targeted in recent transfer windows.

However, the move is currently at a standstill. One of the key factors behind this is the valuation set by FC Twente.
The Dutch club are reportedly asking for around €8 million, a figure Barcelona consider too high at this stage for a player who is still developing.
As a result, Barcelona have chosen to delay any potential negotiations rather than commit to a deal under current conditions.
The club prefers to monitor how the situation evolves over the coming months before making a final decision.
Importantly, Nijstad has not been entirely ruled out, as Barcelona remain interested and could revisit the deal later, depending on the player’s progress and whether the financial conditions become more favourable.
However, if Barcelona decide to make a move, they will have to fend off severe interest from the Premier League, where teams like Manchester City, Chelsea and Brighton are all monitoring his progress.
