Laurie whitwell on Manchester United failing to sign Mateus Fernandes:
“It was a shock to people at Manchester United. There was an expectation, maybe, that he would sign for United. They were prepared to meet West Ham’s demands of £85M, but with the use of add on’s – Tottenham have guaranteed that fee. Clearly the wages he’s getting paid at Tottenham is more than United could. Ultimately they stepped away from it.
It leaves a big question as to who will come in. It felt like Fernandes was going to be the player after United weren’t able to secure Elliot Anderson. I don’t feel like pressure is beginning to rise a little bit.”
