Barcelona submit bid to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund

Could Karim Adeyemi be off to Barcelona this summer? According to a report by Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, shared by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have submitted an official bid to Borussia Dortmund to sign Adeyemi. Romano also claimed that Adeyemi only wants a move to Barcelona.

There is no doubt that Borussia Dortmund would be interested in selling the 24-year-old winger this summer. Indeed, it has been a relatively quiet summer for Dortmund in terms of transfers. The Bundesliga club has signed Joane Gadou from Red Bull Salzburg and Kauã Prates from Cruzeiro. On top of that, Justin Lerma will complete his €4m transfer from Independiente del Valle.

More activity is expected once players leave the club. Adeyemi, in fact, could be that catalyst. With a market value of €40m, Adeyemi, in fact, is one of the most valuable assets that could be cashed in this summer. Furthermore, Dortmund would be more than willing to trade in that chip on the transfer market. Under head coach Niko Kovac, Adeyemi has seen his role diminish at Dortmund, as he was only sporadically used in the second half of the season and missed out on the World Cup as a result.

As a result, Adeyemi has been looking for a new club. Napoli have been rumoured as a potential destination. Now in Barcelona, a suitable candidate might have arrived. Barça boss Hansi Flick wanted to bring Adeyemi to Bayern Munich back in 2022. Bayern lost out to Borussia Dortmund, however. Now the two could be united after all. Capable of playing on both wings and as a center-forward, Adeyemi could provide much-needed depth in the attack. With Robert Lewandowski leaving the club this summer and question marks surrounding Raphinha, Adeyemi could be a smart addition.

There are some risks for Barcelona. Adeyemi has struggled with injuries and has been incredibly inconsistent when fit during his time at Dortmund. When on his game, Adeyemi can overrun defensive lines with his blistering pace. Perhaps with the right coach, the striker can finally realize his full potential. Indeed, Adeyemi could work well in Flick’s system. Whether a transfer will actually happen remains to be seen, however.
