Wants PSG transfer
Rayan, Barcola & Co – Six Liverpool transfer alternatives to Yan Diomande for right-wing

©TM/IMAGO
Yan Diomande’s preference to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer has forced Liverpool to re-assess their transfer priorities this summer. The RB Leipzig winger was the Anfield club’s first-choice target to replace the departing Mohamed Salah and they had an initial €90 million plus €10m offer rejected. It’s understood that Liverpool were willing to return with an improved offer but Diomande has intimated his desire to join PSG. The Champions League winners are expected to agree a fee with Leipzig in excess of €100m plus add-ons to secure the signature of the Ivory Coast international.
Diomande is currently at the World Cup after his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, which yielded 21 goal contributions in 21 games. The 19-year-old is one of the most coveted youngsters in the world but the transfer fee is astronomical, and arguably excessive, for a player with just one season’s experience in a major league. While Diomande is an exceptional talent, Liverpool overpaid for Florian Wirtz – the Bundesliga’s poster boy – last summer and he struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League and it could also have been too soon for the Leipzig star. With Diomande heading for Paris, we’ve examined six potential alternatives for Liverpool to fill the right-wing role.
Six Liverpool alternatives to Yan Diomande
Market Value
B. Barcola
Left Winger
€70.00m
Bradley Barcola will be directly affected by Diomande’s mooted arrival and could fall down the pecking order at PSG. The French international is an elite winger but he was displaced in Luis Enrique’s starting eleven last season. Liverpool hold a genuine interest in Barcola, but they could also face competition from Arsenal this summer. The 23-year-old’s preferred position is left-wing but he’s equally as comfortable on the right and would represent an excellent alternative to Diomande.
Market Value
Rayan
Right Winger
€60.00m
Rayan enjoyed a brilliant opening six months to his Bournemouth career after joining in January from Vasco da Gama. The 19-year-old adjusted impressively to the demands of the English Premier League and registered seven goal contributions in 15 games – Bournemouth didn’t lose a single game that Rayan featured in. He’s featured regularly for Brazil at the World Cup and has the potential to become a world-class winger. Andoni Iraola worked with Rayan at the Cherries and if money wasn’t a concern then the Brazilian would be the dream alternative to Diomande. It’s understood that Bournemouth will demand around €100m for Rayan and that could prove prohibitive.

Market Value
M. Akliouche
Right Winger
€50.00m
Liverpool have scouted Maghnes Akliouche extensively last season, including his phenomenal display against PSG. The Monaco star prefers to play from the right-wing and he would be a fascinating option. Akliouche is supremely gifted as evidenced by earning a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad, which is littered with world-class attackers and he would be relatively affordable. One major issue with Akliouche is that PSG are understood to be progressing with talks to sign the French international.
Market Value
S. El Mala
Left Winger
€45.00m
Said El Mala’s agent has been extremely busy this summer with the FC Köln star linked with numerous moves. The German U21 international has already rejected the opportunity to join Brentford as he’s set his sights higher than the Bees. The 19-year-old was one of the breakout stars from the Bundesliga last season with 18 goal contributions in 34 games. Liverpool have been linked with El Mala in recent days but it’s unclear how substantial their interest is as he’s predominantly a left-winger and they’ve already signed Victor Munoz.
Market Value
C. Tzolis
Left Winger
€40.00m
Those who remember Christos Tzolis from his Norwich City days will raise an eyebrow that he’s been strongly linked with Premier League clubs. The Greek international hardly impressed at the Canaries but he posted outrageous attacking numbers at Club Brugge last season after delivering on his potential. Tzolis scored 22 goals and provided 29 assists for the Belgium side to catch the attention of major European clubs. The 24-year-old is a left-winger by trade but he can play off the right with Arsenal weighing up a move.
Market Value
I. Mbaye
Right Winger
€30.00m
Ibrahim Mbaye is a fascinating option and will also be displaced by Diomande’s arrival at PSG and the potential addition of Alliouche. The 18-year-old will be relatively unknown to Liverpool fans but he’s an exceptional talent and highly rated by the French club. Mbaye made 29 appearances for PSG last season but totalled less than 1,200 minutes and it’s understood that he wants to leave this summer in search of more regular gametime. The Senegal international scored against the country of his birth, France, at the World Cup but it would be a huge ask for him to be a starter for Liverpool in the Premier League at just 18.
