The 24-year-old netted twice in the 5-1 win and his all-round game caught the eye with Brobbey expected firmly staking his claim to be Netherlands’ starting striker. Ronald Koeman’s sides hold aspirations of going deep in the competition and Brobbey could emerge as one of the breakout stars of the tournaments.

Brobbey’s move to Sunderland last summer from Ajax was relatively low-key with the newly-promoted side splashing out €20 million for his services. The Dutch international was extremely highly-rated as he progressed through Ajax’s prestigious academy but his move to RB Leipzig was hugely underwhelming. Brobbey, however, is beginning to deliver on his unquestionable potential and he possesses an almost unique skillset with his physicality almost unrivalled across strikers in European football. His goal return of seven goals in 31 league appearances for Sunderland last season isn’t eye-catching but his performances have generated interest from leading European clubs. Therefore, we’ve analysed four potential suitors for Brobbey this summer.
Four transfer destinations for Brian Brobbey
Manchester United
In 2022, Erik ten Hag was determined to reunite with Brobbey at Manchester United as he was a massive admirer of the Dutch striker. Ten Hag’s interest was widely ridiculed and cited as yet another example of the Dutch manager wanting to sign players from his homeland. United, however, have now been linked with a potential move for Brobbey this summer and they are expected to be in the market for a new striker, with Joshua Zirkzee expected to depart.
Tottenham Hotspur
Brobbey is on the radar of several Premier League but the strongest speculation has surrounded Tottenham. According to reports, Roberto De Zerbi wants to sign an out-and-out number nine and Brobbey certainly fits the bill. Tottenham have massive ambitions in the transfer market this summer as they aim to transform a squad that narrowly missed out on relegation last season.
Juventus
Juventus are in the market for a new striker this summer with Dušan Vlahović leaving at the end of his contract. The Old Lady have Jonathan David and Loïs Openda as their main two contracted strikers next season but both endured disappointing campaigns. Brobbey would signal an upgrade on the aforementioned duo and Juventus have been linked in the Italian media. Sunderland, however, are under no pressure to sell and they will demand a fee in excess of Brobbey’s €30m market value, which could prove prohibitive for Juve.
Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid plan on transforming their frontline this summer with Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth expected to join Antoine Griezmann in departing. Alvarez is being chased by Arsenal and Barcelona, while Sorloth is expected to pursue a new challenge in search of regular minutes. Brobbey would fit perfectly into Simeone’s aggressive style of play and Atletico would have no issues in affording him. It would also allow the Netherlands striker to play in the Champions League, which will be of huge appeal – unlike Tottenham and Juve.
