Match Officials: Michael Salisbury to referee Manchester City vs Brentford

The Premier League have confirmed the team of match officials to oversee Manchester City’s first of three remaining home games in the 2025/26 top-flight campaign.

It was immense disappointment and frustration for Pep Guardiola’s side in their last outing, dropping two points on the road at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a thrilling 3-3 draw on Merseyside.

Jeremy Doku scored a sublime opener before the half-time interval before a complete lack of control in the second half saw Thierno Barry equalise, Jake O’Brien put the Toffees ahead, and Barry move the Royal Blues into a 3-1 advantage.

Manchester City would respond almost immediately though Erling Haaland’s lobbed effort over Jordan Pickford in a one-versus-one, before Doku would then score from range in the seventh minute of additional time to tie the scoring once more.

That result leaves the Premier League title chasers five points behind Mikel Arteta’s Champions League finalists, albeit with a game in hand, meaning City need a favour from another top-flight club against the Gunners to give them any hope in the weeks that remain.

And ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Brentford, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!

Match Referee

Lancashire-born referee Michael Salisbury has been handed match referee responsibilities at the Etihad Stadium this weekend, in what will be his 19th match across all competitions so far this season.

In his previous 18 fixtures, Salisbury has overseen matches in the Premier League, Championship, and Carabao Cup, handing out 69 yellow cards, one second yellow card dismissal, one straight red card, and awarding eight penalties.

Across his professional officiating career, Michael Salisbury has only officiated a total of three matches involving Manchester City, all of which have resulted in victories for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Those three contests have come in the FA Cup third round, Premier League, and most recently, in the Carabao Cup third round back in September of this season and City’s 0-2 away win at Huddersfield Town.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying Michael Salisbury out on the pitch this weekend at the Etihad Stadium will be Marc Perry and Scott Ledger, appointed into roles as assistant referees for Manchester City against Brentford.

Video Assistant Referees

Overseeing proceedings between Manchester City and Brentford from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be James Bell as Video Assistant Referee, seated alongside Ian Hussin in the position of Assistant Video Assistant Referee.

Fourth Official

Standing between the two dugouts and managing proceedings between Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Brentford’s Keith Andrews will be referee Rob Jones as the game’s fourth official.
