The "real bad luck" continues for Lewis Miley, says ex-defender John Anderson, after it was confirmed the Newcastle United midfielder will not play again this season after fracturing his right fibula in training on Tuesday.

The academy graduate, who turned 20 last week, had only returned to action in Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last month, following a two-month spell on the sidelines with a dead leg.

Anderson reacted to the news on BBC Radio Newcastle, stating: "The young boy has had some real bad luck, both in terms of being out for the length of time he just was and in terms of picking up this injury in training.

"But I suppose now is one of the best times to pick up an injury like that, if there ever was a 'best time', because it will give him all of summer to recover.

"It is a shame for him though, it really is. We wish him a speedy recovery."

Miley is set to travel to a specialist consultant on Wednesday before continuing his rehabilitation with the club's medical team, in the hope of a return for pre-season.
