Joao Cancelo had a slow start to his second loan spell at FC Barcelona after arriving from Al Hilal during the January transfer window.
In recent weeks, however, the veteran Portuguese has replaced Alejandro Balde as the preferred starter in the left-back position.
Such has been his impact that Barça are now exploring ways to sign him permanently at the end of the ongoing season.
One condition Barcelona have for Cancelo signing
Indeed, according to SPORT, Cancelo is increasingly likely to remain part of the Barcelona project next season.
The Portuguese defender has full approval from both the sporting department and Hansi Flick, but there is a clear condition: the player must secure his release or force a minimal transfer fee for the deal to proceed.
Barcelona have already communicated the framework of the agreement to his agent, Jorge Mendes, who will now attempt to negotiate his departure from Al Hilal in the coming weeks.
Flick, who has publicly praised Cancelo, values his versatility and commitment. While there were initial concerns about his defensive lapses, the German coach has worked to correct these issues, and the player has improved in that regard.

Within the club, there is a belief that Cancelo meets the requirements of a signing: he has the necessary level, is already adapted and can compete for a starting position.
His ability to play on both flanks adds further value, as does his international experience, particularly important in a squad with many young players.
Financial aspects of the deal
From this point, the focus shifts to financial considerations. Cancelo has one year remaining on his contract with Al Hilal, but Barcelona are unwilling to pay a significant fee for a player who is not part of the plans of Simone Inzaghi.
Barcelona’s intention is for the player to obtain his release by renouncing the final year of his contract in Saudi Arabia. This is significant, as he earns approximately €16 million net per season.
Jorge Mendes will lead the negotiations, and there have been suggestions that Marc Casado could be included in the deal, as he is of interest to the Saudi club and is considered transferable by Barcelona.
Al Hilal are seeking at least €10 million for a transfer, but Barcelona are not willing to approach that figure. A compromise is therefore expected. Cancelo would then sign a two-year contract, or one year with an option for an additional season.
Discussions are expected to begin this month with the aim of resolving the situation before the World Cup.
