Liverpool midfielder closes in on Inter Milan move

There is a major midfield reshuffle coming to Liverpool.

Targets for the summer transfer window are reported to include Adam Wharton and Eduardo Camavinga.

Arne Slot has been relying on the same cast of characters in midfield for a couple of seasons – and is now beginning to get diminishing returns.

Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are a long way beneath their 2024/25 Premier League title-winning best. And an injury to Wataru Endo has further restricted the Dutchman’s midfield options.

It would be no surprise to see the Anfield club entertain bids for Mac Allister this summer – with the Argentina World Cup winner out of contract in 2028.

Curtis Jones unable to win Slot over

The England international has been fielded at right-back in recent weeks but isn’t quite fancied by the 47-year-old to lead the midfield.

With his contract expiring in 2027 the club will soon have to make a big decision over the 25-year-old. Jones is no closer to agreeing a new deal and that puts his transfer destiny into sharp focus.

Liverpool discussed a deal back in January with Tottenham and Inter Milan both reportedly keen on the two-time Premier League winner.

Jones ultimately stayed put as club bosses were not prepared to sanction a mid-season departure. But all that is set to change at the end of the season however.

Curtis Jones intrigued by Inter Milan move

TEAMtalk isreporting that Inter remain in the picture for Jones – and the Italian champions are emerging as an attractive destination for the Scouse playmaker.

“A move to Italy with Inter Milan is emerging as a particularly attractive option for the Liverpool midfielder,” the report reads.

“Inter remain firmly in the picture and are continuing to monitor Jones closely, with the Italian champions offering a new challenge that is believed to appeal to the player should he leave England.”

Jones is also on the shopping list for both Aston Villa and Newcastle as claimed in the report.

His departure would leave the first-team squad without a single local player in the ranks. That is a lamentable fact and it would be a crying shame if no resolution is found over Jones’ contract crisis.

He will of course want more first-team football than he has been getting and Liverpool under Arne Slot just doesn’t seem like the ideal setting to get it.
