From Holland: Nathan Ake set to leave Manchester City – Italian clubs interested
  • Nathan Aké is set to join Bernardo Silva and John Stones in a high-profile summer exodus from Manchester City.
  • The 31-year-old Dutch international has set his sights on the Italian top-flight, with Juventus, AC Milan, and Roma currently leading the chase.
  • Despite strong interest from Eredivisie’s PSV Eindhoven, sources insist he has no intention of returning to the Netherlands at this stage of his career.

Nathan Ake is set to bring an end to his legendary stay at the Etihad Stadium, making it a minimum of three high-profile departures from the Manchester City squad.

The latest news arrives at a highly delicate time for Pep Guardiola’s squad as Manchester City remain in the midst of a relentless finish to the 2025/26 campaign, chasing down Arsenal in a thrilling title race while preparing for the FA Cup Final against Chelsea on May 16.

However, with Sporting Director Hugo Viana planning yet another major summer overhaul, the long-term makeup of the squad is shifting rapidly behind the scenes.

Nathan AkΓ©, who joined City from Bournemouth for around Β£40 million in the summer of 2020, has enjoyed a trophy-laden six years at the Etihad Stadium, winning four Premier League titles and the historic 2023 Champions League.

Yet, the current season has seen his first-team opportunities dwindle significantly, and while national team coach Ronald Koeman demands regular club minutes ahead of the upcoming FIFA World Cup this summer, AkΓ© has decided his future lies away from Manchester.

Serie A giants circle for Ake as PSV ruled out

Now, according to Voetbal International, Nathan AkΓ© is set to leave Manchester City this summer, with the Netherlands international defender said to be attracting serious interest from top Serie A clubs.

Despite being linked to PSV in his home country, the report points to sources close to the player who are adamant that the Eindhoven club ‘stands no chance in the battle’ for the City man, who still wants to play in a top league.

Attracting concrete interest from Juventus and AS Roma, it is further explained that both clubs must first secure European football – in addition to AC Milan – if they are to successfully lure Nathan Ake to the Italian top-flight this summer.

Manchester City’s ongoing defensive rebuild

With Nathan Aké entering the final year of his contract – which runs until June 2027 – Manchester City are likely to be keen to sanction a sale this summer to avoid losing the versatile defender on a free transfer next year.

The Dutchman’s departure, alongside the confirmed exit of John Stones, leaves a significant void in Guardiola’s defence, placing further responsibility on the shoulders of January signing Marc Guéhi, Josko Gvardiol, and Abdukodir Khusanov in particular.

Transfer intermediaries are already offering Aké to various clubs, with Inter Milan also expected to be monitoring the situation, particularly after their success with Manuel Akanji – who joined the recently-crowned Serie A champions on a season-long loan last summer.

For now, Nathan Aké remains focused on helping Manchester City navigate their remaining Premier League fixtures, starting with the fallout from Monday’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton.
