Everton forward Thierno Barry came on in the 64 minute of their match against Manchester City on Monday night, with Pep Guardiola’s side leading 1-0 at the time of his introduction.

Two goals from the striker ended up helping his team to a draw, and it would have been a win if not for Jeremy Doku’s 97th-minute equaliser.

Regardless, Barry’s goals have handed Arsenal the upper hand in the Premier League title race, with the Gunners knowing three wins will see them lifting the trophy later this month.

Barry is clearly aware of this, and he shared a message with the Arsenal fans on the Instagram story of his second account on Tuesday morning.

The post was a clip from Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, in which Commissioner Gordon speaks to the titular character.

“I never said thank you,” Commissioner Gordon tells Batman.

“And you’ll never have to,” Batman responds.

Rumours have long been circling that Barry was an Arsenal fan when he was younger, with images seemingly showing him in an Arsenal shirt in 2020.

There have also been suggestions that Barry’s invitees in the Everton end at the Emirates Stadium in March were celebrating the Gunners’ goals.

Barry denied those claims at the time, but it’s a fact that the friends he invited to the game ended up in a scrap with Everton fans, which certainly lends some credence to the idea that they might have reacted to Arsenal’s goals in the wrong way.

Whatever the truth of Barry’s boyhood fandom, the 23-year-old has certainly helped the Gunners out as an adult.
