NAC Breda lost this weekend to FC Utrecht, a defeat that means, with two games to go, the side are six points behind FC Volendam and potential safety. NAC Breda had been hoping to have three games to go. The side lost 6-0 toGo Ahead Eagles back in March, but the passport gate saga that has dominated the headlines in the Netherlands in recent weeks saw the side go to court to get the game replayed. However, today the court has ruled in favour of the KNVB and not replaying the game. This means that, in reality, NAC Breda will be playing second tier football next season.
NAC Breda only returned to the Eredivisie last season and ended up finishing in 15th under Carl Hoefkens. However, this season the side have really struggled, with just five wins in 32 games. The last time NAC Breda were relegated from the Eredivisie was during the 2018/2019 season. They then spent five seasons in the second tier, with their promotion coming as a complete surprise after they finished in eighth.
NAC Breda will end their recent spell in the Eredivisie with a home game against SC Heerenveen before a trip to Alkmaar.
