Cologne are considering signing Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a permanent basis, according to Kicker. This comes after the Billy Goats virtually secured their Bundesliga status after their Matchday 32 draw against Union Berlin, which places Rene Wagner’s side six points above 17th-placed St. Pauli with two games remaining.
After cutting short his loan spell at Celtic, Simpson-Pusey joined Cologne on loan from Manchester City in January. The Englishman has been considered a success, playing in 10 Bundesliga games in 2026, including playing 90 minutes in each of Cologne’s last four league games, in which they’ve only lost once.
Should Cologne decide to activate their reported €8m purchase option, per BILD, then Manchester City will retain a buy-back clause should the Premier League outfit want to re-sign the English defender, who has developed in excellent defensive partnership alongside fellow loanee Cenk Özkacar.
