FC Barcelona brought in several reinforcements for their reserve and youth teams during the January transfer window, one of whom was teenage striker Hamza Abdelkarim.

Signed on a loan deal from Al Ahly in Egypt after protracted negotiations, the 18-year-old striker took some time to settle in but has grown in stature with his contributions for the club’s Juvenil A side.

Barcelona ready to activate buy clause

So much so that journalist Sayed Nabawy (h/t SPORT) reports that Hamza has done enough to convince the Barcelona sporting department to activate the purchase option in his loan deal.

The fee is expected to be around €1.5 million plus variables, potentially rising to €5 million, with Al Ahly retaining a 15% sell-on clause on the youngster.

This comes after Hamza made a big statement on the pitch, starring in Barcelona Juvenil A’s 9-0 win over UD Montecarlo to seal the league title.

The 18-year-old Egyptian striker scored a hat-trick in just over 15 minutes, becoming the standout performer in the title-clinching match.

What Hamza said after the match?

Speaking to the club media after the match, Hamza made it clear he wants to stay at Barcelona beyond June 30, when his current deal expires.

“I’m incredibly pleased with what we’ve achieved, but at the same time, I’m determined to achieve even more. It’s a great feeling to be part of this team. I’m determined to keep going and give my all,” the 18-year-old said.

Talking about his adaptation at the club, with Barça opting to ease him in with the Juvenil A squad rather than thrusting him into Barça Atletic, he explained:

“It’s an incredible feeling. The whole team has put in a massive effort throughout the season. I joined halfway through the season, but from the very first moment, I received a warm welcome from everyone.

“Over time, I’ve come to understand the style of play and adapt better to the team, especially as football here is different. Of course, I’m very happy, but I also want to win more titles.”
