Inter have won the Serie A again. The win over Parma seals it, as they took advantage of Milan’s loss to Sassuolo and Napoli’s draw against Como.
This title win isn’t something that many would’ve foreseen, when Cristian Chivu was appointed. The start to the season was shaky and doubts only rose. But Inter’s stability as a sporting project has played a massive role in making sure things soon fell on track and it has led to the title win.
In a way, the Nerazzurri’s stability has been a stand-out trademark in the last few years. When other clubs around them have often had managers who play varying playing styles, Beppe Marotta has made sure there has been little to no variation and hiring of managers has constantly remained the same.
They have gone from Antonio Conte to Simone Inzaghi and Cristian Chivu, with all the managers following the theme of using a 3-5-2 system. There have been changes to how that formation has been used but the shape has largely been the same.
This has also helped with recruitment. Inter have kept their spine of players quite the same, making specific signings simply to satisfy needs. This makes them a sporting project when the likes of Milan, Roma, Juventus and even Atalanta have dallied from their footballing identity.
Many of those clubs have also changed formations and have modified their playing styles too. This has led to their recruitment often lacking a plan, with one player suiting the current manager but not suiting the next manager’s approach.
This hasn’t been the case at Inter. Imagine a player like Yann Bisseck, who could’ve easily been moved on if not for a consistency in the hiring of managers. But having Chivu as someone who uses a 3-5-2 system helped, with many other players also benefitting.
That is a crucial reason behind Inter’s recent dominance. Even if they haven’t won the title twice in a row but it always keeps them in the hunt.
