Espanyol manager dismisses idea of Barcelona fans supporting his team against Real Madrid: ‘Last thing on my mind’

For Hansi Flick and Barcelona, it is one game at a time from here on. After all, they are within touching distance of the league title and will not want to falter at this point.

Having maintained a phenomenal run in La Liga in recent months, the Catalans will be well-deserving champions, and a win over Osasuna later tonight will take them one more step towards the title.

Whether or not the title race ends on matchday 34, however, depends on the result between Espanyol and Real Madrid on Sunday night. A Real Madrid win will keep the race alive, but a draw or defeat will crown Barcelona champions.

Espanyol manager’s comments

Speaking to the media ahead of his team’s clash against Real Madrid in La Liga, Espanyol manager Manolo Gonzalez was asked about how his side’s win would help Barcelona in the title race.

After all, a win or a draw for Espanyol will seal the title race mathematically and crown Hansi Flick’s side champions – a case that creates a unique situation where Barcelona fans may well be supporting Espanyol.

The manager, however, had nothing to comment on the same and stated it was the last thing on his mind.

“Honestly, this is the last thing on my mind. What matters to me is that my team competes well and is capable of winning.”

Speaking on Barcelona potentially winning the league title on the same match-day, Gonzalez respectfully said,

“Barcelona will achieve its goals based on its efforts throughout the season, not based on what we do.”
