The Premier League have officially confirmed their match official appointments for the current round of fixtures, which includes Arsenal’s match against Fulham at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Jarred Gillett will referee the match, assisted by Simon Long and Steve Meredith. Rob Jones will act as the fourth official.

Peter Bankes will be on VAR, with Adrian Holmes acting as the assistant VAR to complete the refereeing team.

Gillett has been a controversial referee on Arsenal games in the past, largely because he’s a self-identified Liverpool fan.

You’d hope that wouldn’t be an issue here though, as the Gunners are only really competing with Manchester City in the title race, having already mathematically finished above Liverpool and only requiring one point from four games to finish above Manchester United.

Perhaps the more controversial figure at the moment is fourth official Rob Jones, with recent statistics from the Key Match Incidents panel suggesting he’s been responsible for five of the 12 errors across the league this season regarding second yellows not being shown.

Hopefully Jones’ refereeing services won’t end up being required on this occasion.

As for VAR Bankes, the official has had a very mixed record with Arsenal games this season.

In his four games as a referee, Arsenal won two against Spurs and Chelsea, but lost the other two against Aston Villa and Manchester City. But he didn’t show any penalties or red cards in those fixtures, so not much of that is on him.
