As per a recent report from Defensa Central, it has been learned that Real Madrid remain fully committed to Alvaro Carreras as their long-term solution at left-back, despite a season marked by inconsistency.
As per the outlet, Real Madrid view Carreras as a strategic investment rather than a short-term fix.
Regardless of who takes charge as manager next season, the decision around the defender has already been made.
On that note, though, Real Madrid expect improvement in his second year, but their trust in his potential remains intact.
A long-term investment
It must be noted that Madrid invested heavily to bring Carreras in last summer.
At just 23 years old, the defender is still in a developmental phase, and the club see him as a player who can grow into one of the best in his position with more experience at the highest level.
Within the club, the assessment is that Carreras has the attributes required but needs consistency to match his potential. His first season has been a mix of promise and setbacks.

Notably, Carreras, who is generating Premier League interest, has logged 3,222 minutes in his debut season, showing that he has been trusted regularly.
He began the season strongly and quickly established himself as a key option, although his momentum was disrupted by a combination of problems as the season progressed.
The Bayern Munich humiliation
One moment that significantly impacted his standing came during the clash against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.
He struggled against Michael Olise in the first leg, and that performance influenced selection decisions in the return leg, where even an unfit Ferland Mendy was preferred.
Despite that, Real Madrid’s thinking has not changed. The club continue to see Carreras as part of their future, but the expectation is that he must raise his level.
Right now, finishing the season strongly would help rebuild confidence and restore his standing within the squad.
Simply put, Carreras’ first campaign has been a learning curve and next season, the margin for error will be smaller.
