Over the past few days, the rumours of Jose Mourinho making a shock return to Real Madrid in the summer have been gaining weight.
With Alvaro Arbeloa’s fate sealed, the Portuguese tactician, currently in charge of SL Benfica, has emerged as one of the main candidates for the Bernabeu hotseat, along with Jurgen Klopp.
Mourinho ‘desperate’ to return
Now, according to journalist Joaquin Maroto (via Ramon Alvarez), Mourinho is ‘desperate’ to return to Real Madrid this summer and has offered his services to the club.
The 63-year-old manager had a three-year stint at the Santiago Bernabeu previously between 2010 and 2013, during which he managed to win three trophies.
Since his departure, the ‘Special One’ has maintained a strong relationship with club president Florentino Perez, who is seriously considering bringing the Portuguese tactician back.

One significant problem
However, as per the report, there is a big problem in Mourinho’s potential return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The former Real Madrid boss is believed to have a release clause worth €6 million in his current contract at Benfica, which Los Blancos would have to pay to secure his services.
But, according to the update, Real Madrid do not want to shell out more money than they did to hire Xabi Alonso last summer in order to bring Mourinho back.
While personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, this release clause presents as a major hurdle for Mourinho and his endeavour to make a grand comeback to the Santiago Bernabeu.
So, only time will tell how Real Madrid proceed in their search for a new manager to take over Arbeloa before next season.
