Alvaro Carreras was one of Real Madrid’s biggest investments last summer, with the club shelling out €50 million to re-sign their former academy prospect from SL Benfica.

The 23-year-old Spanish left-back started the season strongly as well, soon going on to become a permanent fixture in the team on the back of impressive displays in attack and defence.

However, inconsistencies started to creep into his game in the second half of the season and he eventually lost his status as an undisputed starter, as the likes of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia also made a case for greater involvement when given opportunities.

Arsenal, Man United monitoring Carreras

Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shown an interest in signing Carreras from Real Madrid in the summer.

In addition to Arsenal, their Premier League rivals Manchester United are also monitoring the Spanish left-back’s situation.

From Italy, clubs such as Napoli and Juventus are also reportedly keeping an eye on the Real Madrid defender.

So far in his debut season, Carreras has made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring and assisting two goals apiece. He has a long-term contract with the Merengues until the summer of 2031.

Even though Real Madrid are planning to make some sales in the summer, it is unlikely that they will look to part ways with Carreras only one year after re-signing him, that too for a substantial fee.

However, if any of the aforementioned interested clubs come forward with an interesting offer, things could change. For now, however, the sale of the Spanish left-back is not a part of Real Madrid’s summer plans.
