Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has agreed terms of a new contract with Manchester United, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The new deal will be valid until 2031, with an improved salary. An official announcement is expected to be made before the end of the season.

Mainoo was initially linked with an exit from United in January, following his lack of game time under former manager Ruben Amorim.

However, he has been able to regain his place in the starting XI under interim boss Michael Carrick. He has started all but one game under Carrick.

Speaking after Monday’s victory over Brentford, Carrick said Mainoo is so effective in ‘build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks‘, indicating how highly he rates him.

Following his upturn in form, Mainoo is now likely to be named by in the England’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

Mainoo could be central to Man United’s success next term

The 21-year-old is a product of the United academy and has largely impressed since his promotion to the first team.

He can play anywhere across the midfield, but is more effective in the central midfield role.

With Casemiro leaving at the end of the season, Mainoo is expected to become more crucial for United next season.

His ability to dictate play from deep, press resist pressure, progress the ball into dangerous positions, without neglecting his defensive attributes, makes him a key player.

United now have to sign quality midfielders to complement him next season.

It is believed that the Reds Devils want to sign at least two midfielders. Elliot Anderson, Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali are under consideration.
