Nico Paz was destined to return to Real Madrid this summer but they’ve now formally informed Como of their decision to activate their buyback option. According to reputable reports in Spain, Madrid chiefs have confirmed their intention before the stipulated deadline of May 30th. Paz has been a revelation since moving to the Italian club from Madrid for €6 million in 2024 to earn his current reputation as one of the best young players in Europe.

It’s no secret that Madrid inserted a favourable buy-back clause in the deal to sell Paz to Como and it was essentially a prerequisite to the Spanish giants agreeing to his departure. It’s understood that Mardid possessed an option to re-sign Paz for €9 m last summer and that increases incrementally by €1m every summer until 2027 – his Como contract expires in 2028. But it's now been widely reported that Madrid will exercise that option this summer and Paz will return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Nico Paz’s excellence at Como
Paz has blossomed under Cesc Fàbregas to deliver on his unquestionable potential and Madrid always believed in the attacking midfielder. Carlo Ancelotti previously labelled him ‘the future of Madrid’ and Paz himself has made no secret of his desire to return to the Spanish capital. The 21-year-old’s ascent at Como can be evidenced by his market value soaring by €55m, from €10m to €65m, during his time in Italy and Madrid will secure his return for a bargain fee.
As the graphic above illustrates, Paz has been one of the most productive U21 players across Europe’s top five leagues this season. The starlet has contributed 21 goal contributions in 38 games – 13 goals and eight assists – to figurehead Como’s push for Champions League qualification, in just their second season in the Italian top-flight. Paz’s rise will also lead to him being named in the Argentina squad for the World Cup and he can become one of the best players in the world over the next five years.
